Fujita Kanko Inc., a leading Japanese hospitality company, celebrates the 70th anniversary of its flagship hotel, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, this month. Fujita Kanko owns and manages the luxury hotel, which is best known for its magnificent vast Japanese garden, precisely a green oasis in the middle of Tokyo that encompasses numerous botanical species including 100+ cherry trees and 2,300 camellia trees as well as historical artifacts, making the property truly a one-of-a-kind urban resort and a Japanese gem.
The property was once a residence of Gensui Prince Aritomo Yamagata (1838-1922), a statesman, who named it “Chinzanso,” meaning a “villa on the hill of camellia,” since the scenic location had been famous for abundant wild camellia trees. Baron Heitaro Fujita then acquired it, and the Chinzanso garden was opened to the public in 1952. Consequently, Fujita Kanko was established in 1955 to grow Fujita’s hospitality business, and the company has pioneered in the field.
Commemorating the milestone, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo has launched special events/programs including Tokyo Sea of Clouds, which offers guests magical experiences and spectacular views throughout the year, combined with the natural beauties of the garden in its signature seven seasons: camellia; cherry blossom; fresh green; fireflies; summer breeze; autumn foliage; and winter. Some camellia species bloom in winter snow. The anniversary year’s various promotions/programs are offered until November 2023.
Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo additionally offers programs/classes catering to international guests to enjoy cultural experiences, such as tea ceremony at their authentic tea house in the garden, Japanese conversation classes, and moss ball making classes. The hotel’s facilities include 267 guest rooms/suites, nine restaurants, 38 meeting/banquet rooms, and a full-service spa with Japanese onsen (hot spring baths), which is often recognized as one of Japan’s top hotel spas. The hotel has similarly received various awards – most recently, The Prix Villegiature Awards‘ Grand Prix in best hotel ambiance in the world category.
