Interview with Creator Prithvi Chauhan

We had the good fortune of connecting with Prithvi Chauhan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Prithvi, why did you pursue a creative career?

I am thankful that I come from a family of doctors. It gave me a clear idea of what not to do. Luckily, I had my sketching skills to fall back upon. During my bachelor’s in design in Italy is when I started understanding and appreciating different aspects of art. Over there I fell in love with paintings by Van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Sally Storch, and Robert Panitzsch. Looking at paintings in the museums of Torino was a highly immersive experience for me and I was hooked on the thought of expressing complex emotions visually without the use of words. That led me to follow cinematography, which has been super rewarding so far.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy?

If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I am a Cinematographer, who in layman’s terms is a person that encapsulates and paints a director’s vision and brings it to life. The simple answer to what sets me apart is empathy. Filmmaking is such an intensive team-driven process that at times it can be mentally and physically taxing. When I am on a set, I like to keep a check on people working around me and see that they are having a good time. I want the people helping me to have a sense of belongingness on the set and feel welcomed. One such thing I do is to hear their input. 1.) It makes them feel inclusive. 2.) If you implement their input and it’s appreciated by your peers, it gets to be called yours.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

This list is getting forwarded to my best friend as a bribe to visit me. So, thanks for making me do this.

1. Lake Hollywood Park. Drive to the park and sit on a bench overlooking the Hollywood sign. Sunsets here are just serene. And did I mention the cute dogs running around chasing each other?

2. Regent Coffee. This place has the best barrel-aged cold brew.

3. Academy Museum. To be frank this would just be for me (let’s keep this between us).

4. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele for their divine Italian food. *chef’s kiss*

5. Keeping one day aside for brewery hopping. Karl Strauss, Homebound brew haus, Angel City, etc.

6. A drive through the Angel’s Crest Highway.

7. A concert in Hollywood Bowl.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others whom you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Whom would you like to shoutout?

My Parents to begin with. Both of them being doctors never once asked me to pursue medicine and gave me complete freedom to follow any path desired. My brother; has just been there with me throughout, irrespective of what I am doing professionally.
